Rhode Island EduBoston student shares her love of crafts with classmates

Friday, Mar 10, 2017

Jing Duan, whose nickname is Rancy, is a junior at Bay View Academy in Riverside, R.I., and is in her second year as an EduBoston student. In addition to being an exemplary student, Rancy launched a craft club at Bay View, combining her love of crafts and her interest in sharing her skills with others.

Rancy worked with her school counselor, school adminsitration and a beloved teacher to start her club, which initially was comprised of a small group of her Chinese peers. Now in its second year, the program has exploded, and an additional teacher joined to help. Flyers posted around the school increased its popularity, and the craft club continues to grow in diversity and numbers. At a recent meeting, more than 20 students gathered to work on craft projects. Rancy has networked with EduBoston staff who travel to China to bring back special materials for craft projects.
